Thinking a bit more, the transcription of the parish records assumes that each of the children adopt Rees John Evan's surname as their surname, i.e. Evan.

I am not too familiar with the patronymic naming system, but would have thought that if this was followed then their last name would have been Rees, so stuck as to where Jones came from?

Have you found the marriages of other children, or the deaths of either Rees John Evan or his wife Elinor

Hiya I haven't as yet to be honest.
Maybe someone can correct me but I am sure at some stage in history  a child took the surname of its mother.  Is this right anyone

I have no knowledge of the child taking the mothers surname, the nearest to this happening in my OH's tree is some of the women had the mothers maiden name as a middle name.

Maybe the mother remarried and they took the new husbands name.
