Maria is still with her parents in 1871 age 18
RG9/ 4752 Folio 51 Page 10

1881 she may be with Robert & Margaret Bradley (Cousin) with a 1 year old daughter
RG10/4719 Folio 32 Page 58  (Surname Dunnington)

I can't see that marriage listed on freebmd.  I wonder if it is just banns and she never married

The Maria that died in 1883 was a spinster age 31 which fits age wise with yours.

Informant R Walker - joiner - address Monkgate but looks like she died in county hospital  :(

I would lean towards it being her to be honest.

A family tree with her on gives that death - but it also gives 4 children for her all called Dunnigan spouse unknown so that's something to look into!

Interesting one of the children is called Francis William and the possible marriage you found was to Francis Mercer so I wonder if he was the father.

Son Frances is in the workhouse in 1881
Daughter Frances is in the workhouse in 1881 but with grandparents in 1891

Francis Mercer I think remains unmarried and with his parents but could still have fathered one or more of the children.

If the tree is correct it's very sad as 3 of her 4 children died in the workhouse.

Only Frances Elizabeth survives to marry in 1908 - I wonder if she named a father when she married.

This birth registration could match with the daughter on the 1881 that I mentioned

From the new index on the GRO website
DUNNIGAN, ELIZABETH    - No mothers maiden name showing
GRO Reference: 1880  M Quarter in YORK  Volume 09D  Page 11

also the Francis that Milliepede mentioned
DUNNIGAN, FRANCIS  WILLIAM  - No mothers maiden name showing
GRO Reference: 1874  M Quarter in YORK  Volume 09D  Page 50

The two others mentioned on the tree are

John Henry 1878-1879

Elizabeth 1880-1886

Oops sorry you have Elizabeth - the other one Frances Elizabeth 1876-1954

Can you see my problem? Whilst I look at info on other trees I always look for evidence in official records. I think the suggestion of looking for the father of the bride is a good one assuming that their is a fathers name given. But why can I not find the family in 1851
Bridget Dunnigan
Registration Year   1849
Registration Quarter   Jan-Feb-Mar
Registration district   York
Parishes for this Registration District   York
Inferred County   Yorkshire East Riding
Volume   23
Page   719
when the daughters birth is registered in York in 1849?

Sorry I thought we were looking for what happened to Maria not Bridget but will have a look for her now!

Hmmm easier said than done I can't find her in 1851 either  :-\

Parents are both from Ireland so I wonder if they popped back there.
