Marriage of Martha Powditch 1st Q 1864 West Ham help please
« on: Friday 18 November 16 19:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Please can anyone help?

I know that Martha Powditch married Richard Edward Wright in the 1st Q 1864 in West Ham, Essex
(I do not know the exact location).
Please, is there anyone who could tell me the name of Martha's father, and his occupation?
I'd be very grateful for any help,

Thanks,

Kit

Thanks for that - I really do appreciate your kind reply.

I'm really after the Marriage Cert to prove that it was the Martha bap in South Lynn in 1839, but also, I think that her father died young, so I was hoping that it might contain other info.

Thanks again,

Kit

Marriage Locator (www.marriage-locator.co.uk) shows that the reference for this marriage doesn't correspond to a C of E parish in their database, so it may well have been a register office or nonconformist marriage.  You'll need to order the certificate from the GRO online in order to find out more.

Thanks very much for that - that's very useful, as I now know that it was not a church marriage.

I really do appreciate your help,

Kit

The 1841 and 1851 do not show her with parents.  In 1851 she is with her grandmother Martha Porter

In the words of the song - there's only one Martha Powditch.  1841/51/61 turns up only one entry and that matches the details posted from FS

the actual message is

Sorry about this but we don't have any records for this marriage

which most probably means they haven't transcribed any entries.

I tried changing the page number downwards and always got a 'no' result.

The expected page range for this quarter is 1-62 and the entry you are looking for is number 35, right in the middle.

Typically the first entries are always Anglican, followed by Jewish and Quaker, then registrar attended (for other demoninations) and then register office.

If no-one else replies over the weekend with a location then order from the GRO early next week.
