FreeBMD has deaths for John Rose in Preston in 1848 and 1850.

I'm reviving this thread to try again to get to the bottom of who is Ellen's father, I've received her birth cert 1852 which I've attached, father named as Joseph Barnes and mother Sarah Barnes formerly Airey (Joseph and Sarah didn't actually marry until 1859

if Sarah was pregnant when she started seeing Joseph then Ellen's father would probably be John Rose even if Joseph was on the birth cert, if I can find Sarah with Joseph before that then her father would be Joseph. I've found a possible for Joseph in 1851 but he's a servant and no sign of Sarah.

that's John Rose in 1841, I'm now thinking Joseph Barnes may be my 3rd Gt Grandfather and not John Rose, his father's name was Peter and census say he was born in Cheshire, I can't find them on the 1841 census or find Sarah in 1851
