For the avoidance of doubt he is named on the Arras Memorial but has no known grave.

Thanks; I also got your PM.  I have a lot of the information - as you say, how far does one go?  But I will check my stuff against yours.  the mother, Eleanor Jane, is difficult to trace as I can't find their wedding; there are 2 1911 censuses as Eleanor was a nurse and staying elsewhere at the time of the census.  George says they were married for 35 years on his and Eleanor for 34 years on hers, which would make them married in 1876 or '77.  George was first married in 1866 but his bride died after 7 months.  I do have a note that Isabella was an Allison before she married so I think she and Robert were related - another lead to follow.  My main focus has been on the Cravens and I try not to go too far 'sideways' but when interesting snippets come up, I can be persuaded!

Once I have matched up the 2 sets of information, I'll let you know what I have - or have not.  By the way, are you connected to this family?
