The link with them all being a puddler could suggest the 1841 census Isaiah could be him, not sure why he travels around so much.
Although not all the childrens names match up, but they could of possibly died.
I think Henry Asprey was born in 1848 so she could of died from childbirth complications.

The Ann Astbury that died in West Brom in 1848 was only 8 years old.

Name:   Age at Death (in years):    Order:
ASTBURY, ANN       8     Order
GRO Reference: 1848  M Quarter in WEST BROMWICH  Volume 18  Page 557

This new GRO Index thingy is jolly useful isn't it?!

I had completely forgot about that!
well at least we can rule that one out
I think finding the birth may be next to impossible aside from visiting the actual parish, did his original marriage contain any reference to a father?

have you used the new GRO search to look at the older childrens mothers maiden name at birth?

looking for Isaiah  - ASPREY, ISAIAH    MOTHERS MAIDEN NAME-   LAW
GRO Reference: 1839  S Quarter in WOLVERHAMPTON AND SEISDON  Volume 17

Could this be Isaiah junior?

The new GRO search has an Emma ASBERRY birth registered Dudley Jun qtr 1840, also a Sarah Ann ASBURY Jun qtr 1838 also at Dudley. Mothers maiden name in both cases was RHODES. These would fit with the two youngest from 1841.

Also has a death for an Ann ASPREY, Jun qtr 1848 Madeley, aged 35, which would fit.

Thanks to everyone so far for all your help!
Ian, that's fantastic, looks like you've managed to nail down the earliest traces we have of him
Ann Rhodes must of been his first wife and both Sarah Ann and Emma both fit as I believe they are present in later census'

You may find your ancestor did move around a lot. Foundries were in all the areas mentioned. If you are worried about how he and his family would have travelled look at the canal systems for the area as an example of how easy it would have been to travel in Victorian times.

I have ancestors in the same area, moving out of Shropshire into Dudley, West Brom and Walsall. Many of the men were puddlers and some ended up in the Durham area, all in Victorian times.
