Help with South Shields Workhouse - Alexander English

Hi All,

I'm looking for some help tracing Alexander English who died in the workhouse in South Shields around July/Aug/Sept 1869 aged 64.

I found his death announcement in the local newspapers and I'm trying to find out if he was a relation but have no idea how to find information on the workhouse or where to go with this.

Can anyone suggest anything?

At the bottom of that page, it says:
Records at Tyne and Wear Archives
But Deaths only 1914-1948, Admissions and Discharges 1897-1956

So, it doesn't look as though any records survive?
