Hannah Woodcock + Christopher Marshall, Marnham 1802
« on: Tuesday 22 November 16 13:28 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the tree of a friend who lives in Canada.

I have confirmed his descent from a Christopher Woodcock, born ca 1800 in Marnham according to the censuses.

I found this baptism on familysearch:
Name:   Christopher Woodcock Or Marshall
Gender:   Male
Birth Date:   13 Mar 1802
Baptism Date:   14 Mar 1802
Baptism Place:   Marnham,Nottingham,England
Father:   Christopher Marshall
Mother:   Hannah Woodcock
FHL Film Number:   503792, 504064, 504521

Does anyone have any information about these two parents, please? Are there any parish records online to be consulted?

Thank you, Josey

Thank you very much, larkspur, that's great information.

Might there have been a bastardy bond, do you think?

I see in 1841 HO107; Piece: 622; Folio: 18; Page: 5 a Christopher Marshall aged 75 is an ag lab living with the Hopkinson family - head of family George is 'Ind' in N Scarle & in 1851 HO107; Piece: 2136; Folio: 150; Page: 3 a Christopher Marshall aged 84 b Marnham 'grandfather' is living with a George Hopkinson who is now 'landed proprietor' in Sand Lane, Besthorpe.

I also found this marriage in Pallot's Index:
Name:   Christopher Marshall
Residence:   of Marnham
Spouse:   Ann Draper
Marriage Date:   18 Apr 1805
Parish:   Female N Clifton Notts 19
How does this fit with the marriage to Elizabeth Laughton in 1804 ??? ???

Thanks for your interest, Josey

Thank you for those; I neglected to mention in my first post that the name of the Canadian family I am researching is WOODCOCK so the Woodcock or Marshall 1802 baptism is most likely. Christopher Marshall the father presumably born ca 1786 at the latest.

As regards Hannah Woodcock/Rushby/Wilson it appears from ages in 1851 & 1861 that she was born ca 1772/3. I can find no baptism of a Hannah Woodcock - do you think it was possible she had been married before & gave birth to Christopher Woodcock or Marshall as a widow aged about 30? Are a widow's children born more than 9 months after death of husband considered 'base born'?

Josey

ADDED - Just seen your latest post [must learn to type quicker  ;D]. Yes, that's definitely the line. Christopher & Elizabeth's son John 1827 married Sarah Artcliffe in 1849, their son George 1861 married Maria Broughton 1880, their son John 1888 sailed to Canada in 1906.
