Also am I right in thinking it reads "ten tuns" ie. ten barrells?

Yes, I see your point.  This makes it plausible that the word in the first image could be Claye.

It's difficult to be certain whether he writes tunndes or tunnes.

By comparison with Reynoldes it's tunndes;  but he also uses two forms of s at the end of words and the heights of his d and e can be similar.
