The mysterious Mrs H Willson.
« on: Wednesday 23 November 16 09:54 GMT (UK) »
Mrs H Willson (with two ells?) and her connection with my family has puzzled me for many years.
She was present at my Grandmother’s funeral in Liverpool in 1936 and was near the top of the list of mourners, which suggests that she was a relative or a close friend. I have been told that she was married to a man who worked in the War Office, presumably Mr H Willson. They are said to have lived in Westminster Bridge Road, London; number 49 I think. When my Uncle from Liverpool was camping with the Scouts, somewhere in the south east probably in the 1920s, she came to their camp and distributed sweets.
She obviously has some connection with our family and may be related through the Macphersons, Balfes or Carbises.
I would be very grateful for suggestions as to how I should tackle identifying her with the scant detail that I have or, possibly, someone may know of her.

Perhaps you could find them in 1939 register? (we aren't allowed to do lookups for that but think it's available on Find My Past.

Think 'H' is probably her initial.

1927 Electoral List-
Helena Mary Willson, 49a Westminster Bridge, Southwark

The other person living with her at No 49 in the 1920's was James Henry Willson and in 1932 were Adelaide Irene Willson & Madeleine Margueritte Willson (no James Henry)

Adelaide Irene married Arthur N Thorneycroft in 1938

Madeleine married    William P O'Sullivan    in 1936

British Army Pension Records for James Henry WILLSON say he married Helena Mary BAL*S (it's transcribed as BALTS but looks more like BALFS...EDIT: BALFE) 9th Jan 1902 at the Registrar's Office City of Dublin.

That is incredible; so she was a Balfe.

Thank you all so much for your interest and help. You have been much more helpful that I dared expect.
