Looks like there was a connection to Leeds: Lawnswood is the main crematorium there, and I can't imagine them travelling all that way from Norton without good reason.

Not sure why at all.
Her father came from Wykeham near Scarborough and she was born there.
In the 1911 Census the family is living in Norton, a few miles away where she later married Cyril Heseltine.

As far as I can make out, the crematoria in York and Scarborough opened in the early 1960s, so if she was passionately in favour of cremation, then in 1954 Leeds might have been the nearest or most convenient option.

Another thought - if she wanted to be buried in a family grave, maybe there was no room left for burials, but there was enough for cremated remains?
