Good work Isobel!

Not surprising some info. is wrong though but enough which is correct to tie in.

Thanks for locating the death information isobelw. This is consistent with the person who married in 1924 [see attached]. My concern is that Bella’s parents are wrong in both documents.

Here’s Bella and her parents in the 1901 census: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000675369/

Here’s Bella, her siblings, mother, & step-father in the 1911 census:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Gartann/Lacknacoo/497229/

So I’m assuming that William Scott as the groom in 1924 and later in 1946 as a widower, included the incorrect information about his wife’s parents.

Bella was young when her father died i.e. she may not have known his name & she probably didn't have time to ask as it's possible the question of what her father's forename was, only cropped up when she was getting married?

It may never have been later mentioned i.e. no-one was any wiser until again upon her death & the only person who knew what was told at the marriage was her hubby?

It sure looks to be a genuine error.

Just a thought?

What was the father's name given by her siblings on their marriages?

Is it possible her g/father was named James & the 1st name which came to mind on being asked for her father's name?

Mmmm...not good to see it in both certs  :-\ Confusing.

skirl, the marriage cert details would have been given by Isabella herself at the time of the marriage registration. Naturally, it is the death cert where William would have given the details re his in-laws.

For what ever reason, it looks like she gave the wrong info. She did give the round about details correct though! Father (Charles) deceased, mother (Margaret) alive and remarried and now a Stafford. The McGuniness and first names  ::)?!

It is very confusing. I checked the 1901 census and there was not a family named McGuinness nor a woman named Emily in the entire parish.

I tried looking for a birth certificate for Margaret Robinson (Moore/ Stafford) on the irishgenealogy site to see if that shed  any light, but I couldn't find anything. According to the 1901/1911 census she was born in County Donegal around 1878.

Isobel, I think skirl has Margaret Robinson's history...and a complicated one that was too for her to unravel from what I can see such as here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=758025.0
