This could be Harriet on the 1891 as a widow but with a son Francis (birth record shows MMN - Jermy)

Harriet Mumford   wid 31 b. Harlow, Essex
Francis Mumford   8 b.    Harlow, Essex

Just a bit of extra info  :)

Harriet remarries in 1891, Epping, to Arthur Brewster

Yes - Harriet!!!!!   That's what I meant!
I typed that 1871 census up 4 times and each time just as I pressed "post" the internet blipped and I lost it. I nearly gave up ..... and obviously should have done !  I was nearly throwing the laptop out the window.

I was with you for a while, now I am completely lost. My understanding is that Edward Mumford married Emily Jermy in 1880.

Leslie Herbert Mumford was born q1 1885 - mothers name Jermy. I assumed Emily Jermy.

I am not clear were Martha fits in???

SORRY ... Edward married HARRIET. NOT Emily. Still not sure about Martha?

Edward Mumford married Harriet Jermy

I made an error when I said Martha in reply#9 (in the same way as you put Emily instead of Harriet, I went and put Martha!). JJen pointed it out in reply#11.

Martha is Harriett's mum on 1871.

This is the same Martha who is Leslie Mumford's Grandmother on the later censuses, thus confirming we are on the right track
