Where is this Factory, Mill?, Canal, Bridge? Crown shape on tower.
« on: Thursday 01 December 16 17:48 GMT (UK) »
Hello

The Lincolnshire Archives are requesting help as to where this mill/factory is or was located. The request is on their Facebook page 'Lincs to the Past'.

Personally I think it's unlikely to be in Lincolnshire or it would have been recognised already.

Their Refs are: SIEMENS/GLASS NEGATIVE/1929/29-2697D & E (Not necessarily a Siemens building or dated 1929.The negatives have been scanned as part of the "Ruston and Hornsby" project - engineering works which made the machinery in the foreground of the pictures).

Thank you

The mill type building has an interesting crown shape on the tower, and if only I could read the sign...

I did wonder if the emblem/logo was a wheat sheaf  :-\ but I think it is actually a repeat of the crown design on the turret.

The machinery  looks as though it is dredging the River or Canal.

It could be a brewery?

If Lincolnshire  is incorrect, could it be Kirkstall  beside the Leeds Liverpool Canal?

The answer to that question, surely, is to do some research and find out. If you find it, please post a link to the photograph which identifies it.

It won't be the Leeds and Liverpool, which took only narrowboats.

The Aire and Calder?
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

I'm afraid I can't find any photographic evidence to back up this idea (and I promise, I have looked!) but I wonder if the crown is a whacking great hint for the forerunner company of Crown paints (their website makes mention of a Belgrave Mill where they made wallpaper  :-\
