Richard Thomas Newill born in Chicago.
« on: Thursday 01 December 16 20:13 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for the birth of the above gentleman & who his parents were.  On the 1911 UK census he's living in Portislade, Somerset with his wife Rose & 3 children.  He's 43 years old, born around 1868, birthplace Chicago, Ill, resident of USA.  No job, as it says "not allowed to work" presumably because he's not a UK resident by birth & has become a UK citizen yet??  He's been married 6 years.
I can't find him on a passenger list coming to UK which I'm assuming was between 1901,[as he's not on the 1901 census,] & 1905.
Please can anyone shed light on this man's family???
I think I've found a marriage for him in 1888 to Mary Kennedy who died in 1905 aged 29.   There's also a child named Mary I Newell, spelt with an E not an I, b 1894 who died in 1897 aged 3.  Both mother & daughter, if they are indeed mother & daughter are buried in Oakwoods Cemetery in Chicago.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me re his parents & possible siblings etc.
Thanks so much,
Amberly.

I am sure you will have seen references to Richard Thomas Newill born 1855 in Chatham, Kent. He seems to have served in both the Royal Navy (1870's) and the US Navy (1880's).  Just wondering if this could be the same person.

I think you will need to get the 1905 marriage certificate to find out his father's name.

Could well be the same person, nothing showing in US census for someone of that name in Chicago.
