John Allington 1802-1880 Great Easton
« on: Saturday 03 December 16 08:01 GMT (UK) »
Whilst I can find John Allington (b. Lindsell) in 1841, 1861 & 1871 census I can't find any 1851 return for him and his family. So far I've been unsuccessful in finding his wife's maiden name, marriage record or even death record for her. There is a death record for an Elizabeth Allerton, Q4, 1970, Dunmow although Allertons appear scarce elsewhere in Dunmow records...Can anybody help, please?

Looking at the family in the 1861 census they have  a daughter Martha born 1847 ish in Great Easton, Essex

On the GRO birth index there is a Martha Allington b 1846 Sept Qtr Dunmow Vol 12 Page 87 that could be her.   Mother's maiden name is listed as Thurgood

Kay

Edit - I can't see a birth reg for older sister Mary

Have you found the baptisms for any of their children?

Many thanks for the lightning responses! I haven't found any baptism records whatsoever. May I ask from where you obtained "Thurgood" records as wife & mother, please? Or is that asking too much? What did I miss?

The GRO (General Register Office) fairly recently produced a birth (and death)index which can be searched for free (although you have to register).   https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/menu.asp   The index lists the child's mother's maiden name.

As far as I can see Martha Allington is the only child's birth that the couple registered
