Can't make out the cause of death from the original certificate because it's been partly cut off. Can you take a wider clip of it and re-post?

The RCE reads: Injuries sustained in Consequence of deceased having had his head jammed between a gaspipe and the outer wooden frame of a bench of retorts.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

What was the date of death? There is a short report in the Falkirk Herald 18 Sep 1886 mentioning a Daniel Campbell aged 21 in an accident at Bathgate, Deans Oil Works, involving retort benches.

It was in 1886 in Bathgate -looks like it could be my Daniel, I have attached wider clip of the entry.

Deans Oil Works was to the west of Arrol Square in Deans Industrial Estate, Livingston (the former Engineer Park). West Lothian Council Archives (not Local History) at the Service Centre, Kirkton Campus has a plan of the works.
