James Lynch and alice Preston
« on: Sunday 04 December 16 18:15 GMT (UK) »
I have a James Lynch with his wife Alice Lynch nee Preston both born in Dublin and in the 1871 cencus they are in Uxbridge Middlesex with a 4 year old daughter alice and they say born 1841 and 1842 respectively.how ever in the 1881 cencus James is dead but Alice has a son james aswell now born 1872 but she has aged so that her birthdate would be 1825!!!!I think 1871 is correct but when she dies her birth is given as 1825???I cannot find any trace of their births or marriage in Ireland Dublin??theres a possible James Lynch with a father Pat and a mother Rose in Ireland with james having a birth date for 1841.any help with this would be fantastic.???(they are found living with hawkers in 1871 although james was a boots closer?)

Are you looking at original or transcription of 1871 and 1881 census records?

Where are you looking for their 'births or marriage in Ireland Dublin'?
Civil registration of births started in 1864 (too late for both of them) and registration of Catholic marriages also from 1864. Non-Catholic marriages from 1845 but I don't see any sign of them.

Have you searched for the marriage in England?

If they were Catholic then it will probably be easier to find them in Irish church records- once you have a location-

Not wise to assume anything in family history. Our ancestors like to confuse us I think.  ;D If they were travellers they could have got married anywhere in Ireland or England. Even non travellers don't necessarily marry where you think they should.
