William Hood Gender Male Christening Date 29 Jun 1789 Christening Place St. James, Westminster, Middlesex, England Birth Date 03 Jan 1789 Father's Name Thomas Hood Mother's Name Judith

With the 1841c saying William was born out of county and seeing Norland Middlesex (London) Yorkshire on 1851c Someone thought Middlesex ? and maybe emunerator assumed Norland Halifax

see 1850 map image and link

Todays map use St Anns Villas (Road) as datum map fix point (St George's Road has been renamed)

Hello All

Thank you very much.

When Frank said Out of County for 1841 and this Wakefield 1851 Census, William Hood aged 63 years, was altered, from born Middlesex to Yorkshire, I began to wonder if the alteration was fit and proper.

A geographical dictionary of England and Wales: containing the names, ... by William Cobbett, 1832
https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=iJsMAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA454&lpg=PA454&dq=%22Norland+in+halifax%22&source=bl&ots=pK3caSLDOC&sig=499ttdJb1sE8eQLYV5w9tPpi7-k&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiaoJi4wt3QAhWnDcAKHfh2D-4Q6AEIJDAF

For the last year, I've noticed where the Hoods in Yorkshire, have been 'hanging out' and were born.

However, this 1851 Census page I had printed off, was either:-
i) indicating another possible Hood Yorkshire birthplace, or
ii) had been corrupted.

Looks like someone has took it upon themselves to change it to Yorkshire and corrupted the County of birth.

Thanks for the map and links too, dobfarm.

Kind regards Mark

There isn't much at Norland Halifax !! but seems to be as same as still in history as things were in the 1600's with few buildings with date of mid 1600's when built.

I passed through Norland  this evening as petrol is cheaper in Halifax at Asda also to do big shopping trips.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
