A different scribe I'd say writing this.

The testament dative and inventar ad omissa et male appretiata
of the goodes geir debts and sommes of money pertaineing to umq(ui)ll
Robert Lockart merchand burges of Ed(inburgh) the tyme of his deceis who de-
ceise in the moneth of C jaj vji & threescore C yeires ommlted out of the prin(cipa)ll
confirmed testament and as well appretiat the rentill be Anna El-
phingstonne his relict spouse up giver of the inventar of the said
testament as having best knowledg and in Name and behalfe of C

med to him be the comiss(a)res of Edr upon the last day of July jaj vi C

bell wright burges of Edr assigney efter Spec(ially?) only exe(cutor) dative de-
cerned as creditor admissor et male appretiata to the said umq(ui)ll  de-
funct In sua far as the said umquill Robert Lockart as prin(cipa)ll and James
Windrum of Wistonne [tanner?] and sovertie for him be thir land and obliga-
tione sub(jec?)t with their hands of the dail the twentie sext day of Novr

v it from Sir Damell carmichaell of lyne foord Knight the somme of
iiij aj merkis scots money the glle (which) somme of iiij aj M with the
ordinar @(annual) rent thereof confrome to the act of parliament frae
the terme of Mantimes then Imediatlie thereafter last by past

This curly symbol again! I wonder if it sometimes it was used as a sort of stop-gap - perhaps he was going to find the name of Robert’s second son and fill it in later, and put in the symbol - I don’t remember that his second son’s name statred with a C?
Also the date of Robert’s death near the beginning is given as
‘C jajvji &(?) threescore C yeires’.
Why a ‘C’ at the start, and another after threescore? Almost as though the scribe didn’t know exactly, and was leaving a question mark about the month and final figue of the 1660s.
Hmmmm. quite a little puzzle.

But in other dates it seems to work as ‘a hundred’ - ‘jaj vj C threescore tua’ would be 1662.

Goodness knows what 'hands of the dail' means, but that's what it looks like!

ad omissa et male appreciata - obviuosly a latin term for this document - a bit about it here but maybe Bookbox can enlighten us further. You get lots of hits if you Google it.

Goldie, I'm wondering whether dail is daie, with a poorly formed e.

Then Subt might be a form of subscribed.  I can't account for why it's not a superscript d.

The meaning in essence being: ...subscribed with their hands on the day the twenty sext day of Novr...

Hi Kevin,

I want to make a correction to my post above.  I have been looking at Goldie's recent transcriptions and realised that the word suggested to be dail, which I thought might be daie with a poorly formed e, is actually dait, meaning date.  The form of t used can be found at the end of estimat, testement and Lockart in the bottom quarter of amendment 3.

So the reading should be:  ...subscribed with their hands of the date the twenty sext day of Novr...
