looking for Schouten Family
« on: Thursday 08 December 16 01:03 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help Please.
Trying to find any information on Fanny Schouten b 24 Jan 1903 Netherlands d 1990 Te Awamutu
I have found 4 Records for her at Archway.
I know Wellington searches are unavailable at the moment and i have a request for her Auckland probate
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=760487.0
From what i can see on Archway Fanny was registered as a New Zealand citizen on 26 June 1959. Her maiden name was Fruitman, she was Dutch and noted as Mrs.
Fanny was my godmother but i also think she may be related to my father's side of my tree.
I have looked for her burial location but she is not at Te Awamutu.
I did however find the grave of Adrians Willem Schouten in Te Awamutu who died 13 July 1960. Husband maybe?  He was a Horticultural Instructor at Waikeria. My Mum's father also worked there.
Due to mobility issues i am unable to get to my local library to search any further.
Any help would be most appreciated and gratefully received
                              Carol.

Hi, there is a cremation record for a Fanny Schouten at Hamilton Park Cemetery - died 24 June 1990, cremated 27 June, age 87. Looks like that could be her :)

Last address given as Matariki Hospital, Te Awamutu. Not sure if related but there is also a cremation record for a Johannes Schouten (died 8 April 2008, aged 66) and a Nicolaas Johannes Schouten (died 23 Sep 1994, aged aged 57).

Thanks Carol :-) The Te Awamutu cemetery record for Adrianus Willem Schouten on Ancestry gives his spouse's name as Fanny Schouten, and he was naturalised on 22 May 1959

Cheers,
Alicia

His death appears to have been reported in newspapers in Leiden, giving her maiden name as 'Vleesdrager'.

Digging into this reference, a sad story begins to emerge.

A comment on this blog mentions a  Fanny Vleeschdrager who married the writer's uncle, a Ad Schouten. Her family are said to have died in Sobibor - a death camp in German-occupied Poland
http://weblogs.nos.nl/evenementen/2010/04/08/selma-de-vrouw-die-sobibor-overleefde/

Here we find Juda Fruitmann, husband of Fanny Vleeschdrager, and two daughters, Carla and Eleanor, listed among the dead.

http://www.maxvandam.info/humo-gen/family.php?id=F31404&main_person=I83672

Fanny was born in Batavia (now Jakarta), in what was then the Dutch East Indies, and her daughters were both born in that area as well. Carla was aged 20 when she died, and Eleanora would have been just a few months shy of her 13th birthday.

After such a tragedy, I hope Fanny found happiness in NZ in her last days.
