James Alsop abt 1715-1786 Wheelwright
« on: Thursday 08 December 16 12:02 GMT (UK) »
James might have been born Suffolk. My first trace of him is in 1743 when as he married a widow in Great Oakley,Essex. He married twice more, died & was buried in Gt Oakley. Was he baptised in the Nayland area? There were Allsops there at the time. One of his descendants Daniel Allsop moved to the Cock at Polstead when he retired & died there 29 May 1901. Not a common name, but he has been a brickwall for too long. Any ideas?

I now have 3 John Alsops buried in 1757! Two in Nayland & one in Layham. Scrivener buried 1739, Mary 1738.          Are the dates of baptisms available please?      James Alsop married 03 Dec 1765 at Higham by Nayland Martha Sickleprice can he be tied in?

Of the two john Alsops buried in Nayland, the one buried 14 August 1757 can be discounted as he was the son of John and Elizabeth.

The Robert buried 3 May 1724 can also be discounted as he was born 1724

According to the Suffolk Baptism Index all the Alsop children were born the same year that they were baptised

John bapt. 18 August 1700
Scrivener bapt. 18 Mar 1704
Unnamed male bapt. 17 Sep 1710
James bapt. 24 July 1717
Robert bapt. 4 Oct 1719

Just had a look at the Marriage Index and for the 1765 marriage in Higham it says
James Alsop Widower Parish Gt Oakley, Essex.

Unfortunately it doesn't give ages or Martha's marital status.

I can't find a birth for a Martha Sickleprice in Suffolk or anywhere else nor can I find a Sickleprice marrying a Martha.
