WW1 Record Search. William Rees Hughes RAMC
« on: Thursday 08 December 16 15:21 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather, born 1892 lived in Blaenau  Ffestiniog. I have found his Medal Roll entry, but it appears his records were amongst those lost in WW2. Is there any way of finding anything further about his service, please? The only other information  I have are a couple of RAMC group photographs ( no details, but family anecdotal evidence was that he was on one of these photographs). The other snippet I have is  that his mother died in March 1919 and in her obituary it stated that she had not seen her son before she died as he was still serving in France. Thanks for any advice.

There is the medal roll associated with the card but it has no further information I'm afraid and the card and roll appear to be all there is to be found.  Too common a tale unfortunately.  Anything on the back of the photographs or titles on the front?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

No further details on the photographs I'm afraid. Thanks for your help, anyway.

Have you checked the newspapers?  A newspaper interview around 1933 gave me so much information about my cousin.  He had been reported killed in action March 23 1918, then found alive and a POW, but he didn't show up in the Red Cross records.  The interview told about what happened to him after his capture, the fact that he had been mourned as dead and that his family had sent copies of his obituary, his time in the camp and return home.  Pure gold to me.

Hi  Bronwen
The photo of your grandfather...the second young man standing from the left looks very like my nain. Have only just discovered this site...so cant see where to pm you. My father was Bryn who died in 1956. I remember going with Nain and Elwyn as a young child to your Nains house in Liverpool( maybe you  lived there then too). I last saw your dad Glyn at Elwyns funeral. Very interesting reading what you have discovered about our great grandfather.
Best wishes
Nerys
