put "knavingcots" in search field (The phrase) - the snippets returned will give a "flavour" of the place in the 20s/30s.

Select "Wills Probate 1858-1996" and search for "Dowding, 1918" - see Henry Dowding

thankyou capetown for all that information.
I've just finished writing up my findings and i just wondered if knavingcots was just one cottage or were there a couple of cottages with that name as their address?
Just got a couple of people who seem to be living there in consecutive years, but one of them seems to have lived there a longer time and it doesn't seem possible.

If you look at my previous message re:  Lloyd George Land Survey

this gives a map reference: 32.10A

Maps are under the heading on the front page.

- appears to be just one dwelling with outbuildings.

Click 'once' on Section 32

and then 'click' twice on Section 10

(I find the screen goes black is I don't do this!!!)

On the 1902 map, according to the key, it looks like there was a trigonometric station there? can anyone clarify that?
