Thank you Mabel for your search results which proved to be both very interesting and informative.     The address for the service record connects to the 1891 Census with Samuel/Margaret Jones, and the fact that Margaret was recorded as a Widow in the court case, resulted in finding Samuel's death in 1916 aged 51.
This was a year prior to Roderick's Lancashire Marriage which didn't record a deceased Father for him [ but did for his Wife], collectively reduces the probability of this being the correct family.
Could you please tell me the Occupation of the other Roderick in 1911 with I assume, John/ Mary Ann Jones [ I am not sure what's allowed on this census].
Thanks.

Can;t post details from 1911 here

Births are actually as follows

JONES, RODERICK        mmn MORGAN
Q1 1896  MERTHYR TYDFIL  Volume 11A  Page 692

JONES, RODERICK        mmn PROSSER
Q1 1896  MERTHYR TYDFIL  Volume 11A  Page 663

I think one dies

JONES, RODERICK        2 [months? - age on Ancestry is 0]
Q1 1896  MERTHYR TYDFIL  Volume 11A  Page 364

Difficult to guess which one, but thunk the mmn Prosser is the child of John and Mary Ann, as they have a John Lewis b c1893 which fits a birth in Merthyr Tydfil with mmn Prosser. Although they are living in Pontypridd district in 1901, the older children are born in Fochriw which is in the other district.

Then births in Pontypridd

JONES, RODERICK  MORGAN      mmn JAMES
q3 1895 PONTYPRIDD  Volume 11A  Page 538

JONES, RODERICK        mmn JAMES
q1 1896 PONTYPRIDD  Volume 11A  Page 540

Again one dies

JONES, RODERICK        20 [months? age on ancestry is 1 yr]
Q4 1897  PONTYPRIDD  Volume 11A  Page 260

I would suggest this is the second child, from the age.

Do you know of his later history? There's a death of a ROderick Morgan Jones in the Swansea area in 1952, right age. Wonder if this is your man, or the Trebanog man if not your.

Hi I believe the RMJ you are referring to he married a maud Pennington in 1917 is actually my great grandfather I believe maud died around 1920 ish after their child Margaret m Jones was born, he then went on to marry my great grandmother in Swansea and my grandmother was born in 1931, I have been trying to find out where his first daughter ended up. Unfortunately he never spoke of his previous marriage or daughter, all my nan knew was that he was married his first wife died and their child lived with a relative and he never saw her again as far as she knew I'd love to find out more information about him.  :)

Yes Mabel I thought that was the position re the 1911 information but wasn't sure of the level. Many thanks for your search options, which suggest the correct one being with the mmn Prosser.
I will PM you Natalie.
Thanks to everyone again for their thoughts, much appreciated.
           Best Wishes. :)
