Betty EYLES death date please
« on: Sunday 11 December 16 22:33 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the death date of Betty Eyles nee Gray who is buried in the St Michael and All Angels churchyard in Melksham.

The transcription on the stone box tomb has been transcribed as 1 January 1771 however she married William Eyles in 1769 and had several children to him well into the 1770s

There is another burial for Betty Eyles, 1775, Trowbridge?

Trowbridge isn't far from Melksham.

Something wrong with the dates somewhere, also on the tomb ~

Sacred to the memory of Betty Gray Eyles, daughter of William and Betty Eyles who departed this
life the --- day of April 1785 aged 18 years.

If William and Betty married in 1769 was daughter Betty born before marriage ?

The Betty Gray tomb transcription is also dodgy unless she was born before the marriage. FamilySearch has two christening records for her - one for 23 Sep 1772 and the other 9 Sep 1773. Or there could have been more than one child with that name I suppose - 12 months apart

I did notice she was 'Beth' in some of the writing ~ have checked F M P for another burial but the record isn't there,  just the one that you have. Sorry.
