Maybe he was with my 2 maiden Gt. Aunts who were furriers in B'ham but managed to skip across to the USA & raise families there.
Perhaps they all went off beaver trapping. Just a thought.

I used to add corrections, but with the responses I had over the years I no longer bother. Any serious researcher would cross-reference and verify their data before publishing online.

I still post corrections to errors in the sources when I find them.

I stopped trying to post corrections a long time ago ...I was told by a member to make sure I had the correct information ...Like you My poor Grandfather ended up in America also with a different wife and family  ::) ::) ...I did have my tree public to help other's with information but decided to make it private after that ...Then she had the cheek to tell me to open up my .......Tree ( minus swear word )  as she wanted more information  ;D ;D

I'm with you Rosie - private tree on Ancestry now.

I know there are some 'researching' the same family who have people born centuries out but not checking - not jut typoes either.

According to at least one Ancestry tree, my great-grandfather had an illegitimate child in his old age.  Well no, actually, that child was his grand-child,  who happened to be staying with them on the night of the census, together with her parents.  And then, poor fellow,  is supposed to have made his way across the pond to die in Massachusetts, which is pretty clever since I used to visit his Suffolk grave when I was a child.

I saw one tree who had a 100 years difference between a sibling. So may have been a typo or lack of concentration. I did n't bother to correct them. As likewise I can't be bothered any longer. Especially after one Boxing Day being asked for my evidence about a marriage maiden name cos I had n't got any evidence. I have but I had n't posted it on line cos I got fed up of copying etc. I did them a little info on something else though. I've got evidence for a most of my stuff if they ask politely! I made my tree private after that but made it public again following DNA testing. I did change the tree name slightly.

I found a relative who lived his life in Lincolnshire who had fathered a daughter in South Australia.  This was  a "hint" from website.  All this before any flights let alone supersonic ones!

I do find it a bit sad though that some people do not seem to want to ensure they have accurate information in their family trees.

It is sad. When I told the person who had married my grandfather off to the wrong woman, her reply was - "I didn't think it was right, but was the only one I could see." No matter that she'd changed his middle name and date of birth.
