The family of Denis SHINE
« on: Saturday 17 December 16 15:17 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone out there tracing the tree of the Shine family?. My great-grandfather Denis Shine was born in Millstreet workhouse 1st march 1871, his mother was Mary Shine. He was baptised with the surname of Herlihy.
Any information would be great, as I have become stuck!

Is this the same Mary Shine?
My great-grandmother Mary Shine nee O’Connor had a sister named Johanna who was married to a James McElligott. They had 21 (!) Children, but only three become adults. My mum knew one called 'Batt' short for Bartholomew?. They lived in Bethnal Green, London. My ancestor was born November 1871, Johanna was born just a few years before. Their father was a Timothy O’Connor.
I thought that the McElligotts came from Scotland, but, I was told they came from a little village of the same name in Ireland.  Is any of the above any use to you?

If it is her marriage will give her father's name and hopefully where she was from.
