The surname of ELFENBEIN
« on: Saturday 17 December 16 15:23 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone out there help me find out more about my ancestor Johann Christian Elfenbein?  He was baptised in 1794 in Danzig, and then he married in 1817 in Shoreditch, London.  I can not find when he came to London.  It seems that he came alone, as no other of the same surname are on any of the census's, only his later children.  Any help would be great!

Moderator comment: capitals amended for you  :)

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

Danzig, in those days, was a part of Prussia.
These days it is called Gdansk, and is part of POland.

Any records will probably be in Poland?

There are no shipping records of travelers entering the UK from Europe.
Maybe, if you're lucky, there will be Naturalisation or Citizenship papers?http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/naturalisation-british-citizenship/

P.S. Using all capital letters is netiquette for shouting! :D

Elfenbein is to find at Jewish names of Galicia:
