Walter Corbitt c1690 Romford area: looking for marriage and birth
« on: Saturday 17 December 16 16:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have Anne corbitt b1715 to Walter of Hare Street (doesn't mention wife's name) in Romford.
Looking for his birth c1690. I'm assuming in the Romford area.
Also a marriage would be good, as I could then find her birth.
Many thanks.

Don't know if this is any use to you but in the church records of Edward the Confessor Romford I found the following

Walter Corbett/Corbet baptised 27/02/1709 son of Walter and his wife Ellen
Ann Corbett baptised 29/03/1711 daughter of Walter and Ellen
Ann Corbett baptised 14/02/1714 daughter of Walter and Ellen
Two of the baptisms has the prefix h/w at the end the third Harold Wood, Harold Wood being part of Romford but at that time period had no church of it's own

Looks like the first Ann died but I have found no burial nor have I found a marriage for Walter and Ellen

Where does the birth year of 1690 come from?  Have you got his burial with an age at death?

Hi there. Thank you both. Walter is my 8x great grandfather. The second Ann being my seven times great grandmother. i didn't have the siblings and must have been tired as didn't notice the mother's name either! However, somewhere in between the five children that I've now found, (Harry 1712 and Ellen 1713) they move to hare street, which is now called main road in gidea park. This is quite close to Harold wood, (or maybe they were at the Harold wood end of it) so I'm going to have a hunt round Noak hill, havering attebower and warley for marriages for Walter and Ellen.

As to the c1690, it was working back from his children's births. Unlikely to have been born after 1690, but could've been earlier.

Your question made me wonder about his birth, Liz.
Found a Walter baptised 31/12/1665 to Albert us Corbett. My Walter and Ellen have an albertus in 1717. Can't find any other Walter Corbetts baptised in Romford, so maybe it's him? He'd be old having children, but not impossibly old?

Hmmm ... found a death for Walter: 1724 ... no age though.
Also found a second infant death in 1715 for an Ann corbitt??? Haven't found any other Ann corbitt baptisms though?

Ellen could be a second wife - thus Walter older when having this family with her

Or Walter and Ellen could have moved to Romford 1709ish but actually had a whole string of older children elsewhere.

Or Walter wasn't from Romford, he isn't older than you thought but his christening is elsewhere.

Or probably other scenarios I haven't thought of!

So - yes - that Walter christening you have found may be him - but need to investigate a lot further before claiming it as definite!

Ha. Your thoughts are like mine and made me laugh out loud   ;D
I've looked for an earlier marriage in little Warley, Romford and Havering atte bower with no luck so far. No other Walter births. Walter died 1724 and Ellen in 1723 both in Romford.
So still hunting did their marriage and his birth to begin with.
Thanks for your reply.

Also five of their six children die either before they're one and certainly before they're three.
What I'm not sure of is whether the abb corbitt who was born in 1715 is my Ann who marries Thomas Angell in Romford in 1735 now as I found an Ann corbit who died in infancy in 1715 now!!!
