Census lookup Derby 1911 for Crook
« on: Sunday 18 December 16 09:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to track the Crook family who were in Sutton Coldfield in 1901 and may have been in Derby in 1911.

In 1901, there was grandmother Ann Matthews (widow) born in Calne, Wilts.  She had been widowed twice, and one of her children is in the household - Maud Crook, 18 years old, born in Calne.  I think this must be Alice Maud Mabel.  Also in the household were her daughter in law, aged 33, a widow, born E.Farndon, Northamptonshire.  Her first name looks like an initial followed by Charlotte.  The transcription is S. but I'm not convinced as the letters flow together and I would have expected a full stop.  However I can't think what other name it could be, and there is another Charlotte on the page which is written the same way, apart from the first character.   With mother were her two children born in Nottingham - Nora W Crook aged 7 (in fact Nora Winifred Crook) and Edith A Crook aged 5 (in fact Edith Annie).  I found the death of George Crook 1897 in Basford, Notts, which would fit this info.

Edith Annie Crook appears in a census search for 1911 in Derby, so I am wondering if this is the same child, and who else was in the household.  Not Ann Matthews as she died in 1902, but is Nora there, and did the mother remarry? Is anyone else listed in the household?

I'd be most grateful if someone is able to look this up for me - it's going to be a while before I can get to a library again to do this myself.

Thanks
Val

I can help a bit if you do not already know it.

Charlotte A West married George Crook in Nottingham R.D. in Dec 1892.

Although there is a family baptising children in the village no child noted as
Charlotte Ann in East Fardon.

Charlotte did re-marry in Dec 1902 in Derby R.D. to William Wardman.

Rosa May, Charlotte's sister married Thomas Coulson in Derby R.D. Mar 1898

May help a little.

Thanks very much Sandy - that is very helpful.  I wonder if the strangely written 1901 census was where the writer started to write H then converted it midway into C?

Anyway, it would seem that my query now is who was in the Wardman household in Derby?

Hello,
We are not allowed to post 1911 details - just what is available in indexes.

Family Search shows she is a 'niece' to the householder in 1911. - see here

So Charlotte Ann Wardman (nee Crook nee West) was staying with her sister on census night 1911, but no William Wardman - wonder where he was?

It would seem Charlotte's sister Rosa May Coulson emigrated to Canada with her husband in 1913.
