Tompkins of Edlesborough
« on: Monday 19 December 16 22:47 GMT (UK) »

In the 1901 census Julia Tompkins is 54 living with two daughters Lily and Florence in Edlesborough. Julia's husband George 52 is living with daughter Druscilla in Eastcotts, Bedfordshire. Does Julia in the 1901 census say she is a widow? George and Julia are together in 1911 living Edlesborough.
I have a date of burial for both Julia and George Tompkins as 1st May 1916 Edlesborough.
If this burial date is correct, is there anything in newspapers to suggest why they died at the same time?
Can someone please confirm these details.

Thanks

Thanks CaroleW.  Not sure where the widow came from, but thanks.

Carol,
Certainly both George and Julia's deaths are registered in the same quarter, 1916 Q2, at Leighton Buzzard RD. I think you will have to view the parish register to see if any notes were made or find a local newspaper that might have reported the deaths. The 1911 census shows the couple had five children of which the three you know of survived:
Robert Charles 1872 (died 1873)
William 1873 (died 1878)
Drusilla Julia 1876
Lily Martha 1881
Selina Florence 1885
George and Julia's marriage is registered at Leighton Buzzard in 1871, Q3:
George Tompkins / Julia Ann Varney.

Hope that helps

Thanks to CarolW,and pjm99,
for the information given, I have most of that, I shall have to be in touch with Buck FHS, of which I'm a member, to see if they can confirm that both George and Julia were buried on the same day.
Will first look to see if there is a newspaper article about their deaths, again I only have the indexes so will need to visit the local library.
Many thanks for your replies, much appreciated.
