Jean Chalmers born 1802 Currie
« on: Tuesday 20 December 16 18:15 GMT (UK) »
Evening All

I am hoping someone can help me establish whether Jean Chalmers married Joseph Gourlay in 1831 Currie is my Jean (daughter of Robert and Janet). I do not seem able to find a death for either Joseph or Jean on SP. I am wondering if they moved over seas. If I can establish parentage it would be most helpful.

Regards
Moo

Both Joseph & Jean (Jane)  are on the 1861 census living in Currie and correctly shown as Gourlay

Here's the reference

Joseph appears to be a widower in 1871 living in Aberdour.  There is a 27yr old daughter Margaret with him b Currie and if you check the 1851 they had a 10yr old Margaret b Currie

1851 is indexed as Gownley on Ancestry

Thank you CaroleW,

I shall recheck for deaths, the children I have found, don't really give me a clue, as there do not seem to be any definite names from Jean's side.

There is an 1866 death in Kirkliston for a Jane Gourlay aged 58

There is a Jane Gourlay b 1809 on the 1861 for Edinburgh so it may be her death
