What do you have so far that would help a search

Just to verify some dates and places for this family. The spelling errors are a result of a bad transcription.

My grandmother whose mother was Sarah Jane (Hazard) Bryant - wrote up a history of the family back in 1970  - Rachel McCrum was born in Montreal - her family were well off and she was raised as a debutante - then a fire and no insurance changed their status

Snydan should read Dryden Smith Bryant - was Sarah Janes husband - my grandmas father
they built a farm in quyon Quebec and it is still there -
trying to find out the father of George Bryant and any info on Rachel (McCrum) Bryant
My grandmother came from a family of 8 - I spent part of my summer at this farm for over 17 years growing up

marriage as hagard - should read Hazard
thanks for the responses - wow are you fast
I appreciate any and all info - together we can put the puzzle together

Hello and a very warm welcome to RootsChat  :).

Rachel has a different birth date listed in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. I have found this baptism which MAY be for her but it gives a third DOB....

Rachel McCrumb
Born 26 Dec 1829
Baptized 11 Jan 1830
Father Matthew McCrumb Montreal Tailor
Mother Elizabeth Campbell
At St Paul's Presbyterian Montreal Quebec

The writing is poor and I can't make out the names of who would probably be the sponsors, and who signed for themselves. Matthew and Elizabeth both signed with their mark (x).

Haven't been able to find a marriage for George and Rachel yet.

The 1842/43 directory for Montreal shows only one McCrum -- Matthew, a tailor, living at 14 St. Mary Street.

By 1854, he is still the only McCrum in Montreal -- address is given as Amherst near Lagauchtiere.

Other baptisms for Matthew McCrum and Elizabeth Campbell:

Eliza, 24 October 1825, baptized 16 November 1825; sponsors were John McCrum, Rachel McCrum, and Francis Roark.

James, born July 26, 1817, baptized the following day; Matthew noted as a private in the 99th Regiment (baptism took place at the Anglican Garrison); witnesses were John McGregor, John Dunbar, and Catherine Do???.  Death of a James McCrum, a tailor, aged 16 years, in 1837 is also noted.

In the St. Paul Presbyterian records, the marriage of a Margaret McCrum to a William Barrett (?), a shoemaker,  on 28 October 1835.   No McCrums as witnesses.

In 1822, Matthew is noted as taking land in Ormstown:

He then sells it in 1823 to Robert Williams.
