Historical Weather Conditions, North Atlantic
« on: Wednesday 21 December 16 19:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am investigating the loss of my g2-grandfather's vessel outward bound from New York 24 October 1861 for Cork, Ireland.  Interested in learning of any sites where sea conditions at the time might be mentioned.

Thanks

If the weather at sea was bad, it was often mentioned in shipping reports in newspapers. News about shipping was often included in reports in newspapers distant from the port the ship was sailing to.  So worth searching on the National Library of Wales newspapers site - free of charge

British Newspaper Archive - subscription site

and for New York newspapers the Library of Congress site Chronicling America - free of charge
