Laurence Cleary Dublin
« on: Friday 23 December 16 10:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi All
seeking a bit of help locating any travel documentation for the above Lau/w/rence Cleary born Dublin 11/11/1893.
His parents were Patrick Cleary and Mary McDonnell they had four known children
Patrick 1890 died on the Somme as a sergeant in 1918
John born 1892 no records after 1901
Laurence born 1893 see below
Mary Josephine born 1896 no further record for her after her birth

just recently i found John and Laurence in a childrens home in Dublin 1901
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Royal_Exchange/Molesworth_Street__Part_/1309262/

there appear to be no records of their parents after Mary's birth 1896.

Laurence appears to be in Manhattan with a Tracy family in 1910 has he been sent there as one of those Home children ?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MP1F-TST

by 1914 he appears to be in the Merchant Navy
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7993024
and continued at this after the war
http://www.irishmariners.ie/searchdatabase.php?srch_surname=cleary&srch_forename=laurence&srch_identityno=&srch_yob=&submit=Search

no further records after this.

would love to know how he ended up in America and how he left if possible.

Any help much appreciated.

Not seeing any records that would match with Laurence going to America between 1901 1910 ..did see this on one of his list of crew records
L Cleary date of birth 11/11/1893 Dublin present address 43 Benledi Street Liverpool
Sailed from Liverpool to Boston 22 Jan 1919 ..There are crew records for Laurence/Lawrence up to 1931 you most probably have this

H Rosie

thank you very much for taking a look for me,i was helping a friend out with this family about two years ago that was before Irish Genealogy released the birth records for Ireland so i am now able to catch up a bit better on this family.
What i have posted above is basically all i have got on them i do not have any of the official Navy records as i will leave that up to my friend to purchase them,at time of writing this my friend does not even know of Laurence's existance i sent him an Email last week but have not got a reply yet,he's in his late seventies and i dont think he's too good on the computer i wont see him till the fishing season opens next March here in Ireland.

Thank you
Dathai

Well Rosie
its amazing what a simple address Benledi St will uncover while Googling thought i had hit the jackpot for a death in 1923 but you said he has records till 1931
very coincidental mothers name Mary
the very last item on this Hibernia Family History page
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hibernia/email/sept2006.htm

just dont know what to make of it.
