Claypoles Lodge Finedon
« on: Saturday 24 December 16 11:58 GMT (UK) »
I came across this entry in the 1891 census for Finedon: Schedule No: 33: Claypole's Lodge - the home of Charles and Alice Freeman and family. Next door at 32 (Woodford) was George Frederick Claypole, boot manufacturer, with his family.

I think these houses must have been on Wellingborough Road. I've tried tracing the same property in the 1881 census but cannot make the connection between the two sets of street names (South West, North East etc). If George Claypole wasn't living in the eponymous house, is there a family connection which caused it to be called Claypole's Lodge?

Many thanks Alan

Hi Sandy

The 1881 census has George Frederick Claypole living in South East Street on the corner of Dolben Square. No house name is mentioned.

Then in 1891 it's the house next door to where George Frederick was living that was called Claypole's Lodge.

Cheers Alan

Hello Sandy,

Thanks for that snippet about the history of Woodfield Cottage becoming Woodfield Nursing Home, I was born there!  :D :D

Hello Alan,
Sorry I cannot add more as I don't remember much about Finedon, I was only a few days old when I left town...  ::) ::)

Hi Paul.

Happy New Year.  :)

I know there was mention of Woodfield (cottage) noted as Woodford as being No. 32 on the 1891
that is why I put the information on.

I had to look this word up only have basic education "eponymous" so no idea if any connection to Claypole's Lodge. I think I trip to the record office maybe in order for some kind soul to see if there is a connection.

Hi again Paul.

Thanks for your kind words. I am still transcribing at home but as Anc*** has so many
Northants records on-line not so many requests on the boards now.

Let's hope 2017 is a good one.  :)

Thinking about it is a shame John Bailey has passed away.

He would have known. http://www.wellingborough.gov.uk/downloads/file/7152/cllr_john_bailey_mbe

Hi Sandy

Many thanks for this reference. After much searching I have sourced a copy of this book on the second hand market:
