Handwriting

I am new to this forum but would appreciate some views on my gg grandfathers signature.William Barrett married twice in 1842 and 1861.I need to compare the signatures from both the banns certs, the signature at the top is from 1842 and the one underneath from 1861. In my view they are very close but would love to have other opinions.

Welcome to Rootschat, you will find plenty of people willing to help you resolve problems.

I am no expert on handwriting, but they look very similar to me, you expect some slight variation with a twenty year gap, it will be interesting to see what others think.

Welcome to roostchat from me too.

They are fairly pixelated with some loss of definition on some letters, but yes, I think the two signatures were written by the same hand.

Welcome from me too  :) :).

I too would say they are the same hand. the capital 'B' shows the greatest difference; can't see the 'r's in the first one very well sadly. The angle is the same as well as the 'tt's.

I actually think that the capital Bs are very similar.  :) I think a lot of the angles within this particular letter are the same and they are formed the same way, particularly the way the curves of the letter are shaped. Similar with the capital Ws - the first up strokes I think are the same although the top example is a bit unclear. :)

Just had a neighbour in for a Christmas drink and told him about my William Barrett signatures. He told me a fascinating story about when he was a cashier at Sainsbury's.Evidently the store had a training course whereby part of the course was comparing signatures on cheques against signatures on cheque payment cards. They told them by turning both signatures upside down they could get a better idea of matching writing, particularly any letter characteristics.I have tried this (with sharper copies than I was able to post) and the little squiggles in the "W" and the small "t's" are almost identical.I was wondering if any of you have heard of this?.I am getting ,with your support more convinced that my "Williams" are one and the same person which is a major step forward for me.Thank you.
