Where are Thomas & Elizabeth Wain/e in 1861 Census
« on: Tuesday 27 December 16 06:35 GMT (UK) »
Hoping to discover where Thomas and his family are located in 1861 census.

Thomas Wain/e was born in 1814 Twycross, Leicestershire.  He and Elizabeth Linney nee Morris of Hinckley married in 1841 in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Elizabeth had 2 children by her first marriage to Thomas Linney being John [abt 1832] and Prudence [abt 1836].  In the 1851 Census Thomas [green grocer] & Elizabeth [her 2 first born children & Thomas and her 3 children of Charles (b abt 1842 Hinckley ) , Thomas (abt 1845 Hinckley ) & William (abt 1849 Hinckley)] were living at King Street, Hinckley, Leicestershire, England.

Elizabeth was born Hinckley, Leicestershire

Been having a look too - and I can't find it either - got my doubts about that one - all the children are wrong.

Sorry - was looking in 1841 census - misread the heading.  Beg pardon  (Can't find him their either. ::))

Now looking in 1861 census still can't find them.  Might they have emigrated?

Was Elizabeth still alive?  Could he be living with a second wife maybe?  I found a Thomas Wain living with a Frances in the Hinckley area.  His children with Elizabeth could have moved out by the time the 1861 census came around.

Sorry - not very helpful here.

The family found by Kay99 looks like the right one to me.  The son transcribed as James looks like Thomas on the image, and Wilhveby is William, plus Joseph Wain b Jul-Sep 1854, Hinckley, MMN Linney.

In 1861 Charles Wain is at No 47 Regent Street, Whitchurch, Derby, a Servant to William Schofield, Grocer & Provision Dealer.

If it helps the family I posted in 1861 included a Joseph Wain born 1854 Hinckley and I think this is him in 1871 living with elder brother Charles at 15 Willow Row, Derby

Charles Wain 28 Baker b Hinckley
Hannah Wain 34 Wife b Derby
Joseph Wain 16 Brother   Shop Lad b Hinckley
Maria Bywater 15 Servant
