Do the GPO make mistakes?
« on: Wednesday 28 December 16 09:37 GMT (UK) »
Richard Wride born 1842 Bristol, parents Daniel and Mary Wride.   Found a death for Richard on FreeBMD 1842, which fitted as he was not on any other census.  Thought I would check the new GPO records to find that Richard who died in 1842 was age 8.  The Richard could either be a twin to an older brother called George who was born in 1836 or he was the son of another set of parents but can find no record.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Helina
the new GRO site seems to record all ages as just a number - so could he have been 8 months old when he died?

I think you mean the GRO index not GPO.

There is a flaw in the way the index has been compiled, the age eight could have been 8 hours, days, weeks, months or years, they have just indexed the number  without noting what it represents.

Some of the ages in the index are actually MONTHS not YEARS (this has been discussed in another thread but I can't find the link right now). Obviously the death certificate would reveal the correct age, or if you can find a burial record this could also help.

Thanks, Ray, Claire, Jebber and Carolyn,

Will accept that Richard was 8 months when he died, He was baptised on the 8 May 1842 so a death in December looks right, poor little chap.
