6th batt R W Kent in WW2
« on: Wednesday 28 December 16 19:39 GMT (UK) »
I have found a reference in an old notebook, and am trying to find any information about the person noted.
Pte J Gibbs 6347858 - 6th batt Royal West Kents - HQ Company in CMF.

I cannot trace J Gibbs or the service numer. Does anyone know what the abbreviations stand for?
Any help gratefully received.

Headquarters Company 6th Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment Central Mediterranean Force the title from July 1943 invasion of Sicily for forces out of North Africa into Italy and also including Balkans and Greece.  See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen's_Own_Royal_West_Kent_Regiment#Second_World_War

As a WW2 soldier, his record will still be with MOD.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thank you for this information.

I have not searched for WW2 records before. Is it possible to get MOD records? If so, could someone advise where/how I contact MOD

Many thanks

The records are not on line despite what a number of sites might say.

Here's the route:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/overview

Note the criteria re kinship.
