Hi Craig,

I can't find a baptism for Alexander but you have his marriage & death with matching parentage which is pretty conclusive.

I have numerous people where the evidence is conflicting (usually maiden names) & have eventually concluded I have the correct person by process of elimination although time consuming it has to be done.

3 possibles for Catherine's death (I haven't done the maths);

ROBERTSON CATHERINE 78
1873 (b 1795)
355/A 2
Fortingall

ROBERTSON CATHERINE 77
1879 (b 1802)
355/A2 12
Fortingall

ROBERTSON CATHERINE 87
1879 (b 1792)
355/A2 7
Fortingall

As we know, ages on DC's can vary but this should give her status whether widowed, her husband's name & her parents with mother's maiden name providing the informant knew all the details.

I couldn't find a death in the area for Donald although I also tried Daniel as they have been known to be interchangeable through dialect.

Hi Annie, don't think any fit, Catherine is listed as 72 in the 1871 census along with Donald aged 81, so it makes her birth year about 1799

Hi Annie just a note on my last message, I don't have a death for Alexander, only for his son Donald in South Africa, I am going on numbers and relying on maiden names, yes I do have Alex's marriage and that gave me heaps of data and I have worked back from there. Thanks to all the help on Rootschat I am fairly certain this is his family, but as you say , there are so many Robertsons in the area. Thanks to you and ev.    :) :)

Hi Craig,

I have edited Reply #12

If you look at Catherine's age on earlier census';

1841 - 40 (b 1801)
1851 - 52 (b 1799)

She was married 1816 (very young)!

There is not many yrs of difference on the 3 I gave you & for the price of £1.50 each (less than £5 if you had to check all 3 to get it right), surely worth checking as they don't seem to have moved around & as I said, ages given by others on a death cert. are seldom exact in that era?

Annie

Edit...The death for b 1802 is on average yrs of birth given on census' & could differ by a yr depending on what month she was born & what month she died.

Hi Annie, I will certainly check each one out, as you say, because it is a common name you need to double check each time, more if required.

Thanks very much

Craig

The 1875 Valuation Roll has a Donald Robertson tenent/occupier Pendicle of Killiechonan Rannoch , Fortingall.

Also a death for a Donald Robertson 1875 , age 85 , Kinloch Rannoch Perth(shire) , 367/7.

If that is the correct Donald Robertson the death certificate should indicate if his wife was alive/deceased at that time.
