T Morton Powell - theatrical agents?
« on: Friday 30 December 16 19:54 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone any knowledge of T Moreton Powell Enterprises Limited (also known as Morton Powell's Eneterprises)?  The company appears in advertisements in The Stage and The Era in the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries.  I presume that the company provided artistes for theatres and music halls, but can anyone confirm this?

Hi,

This link shows a reference to Morton Powell Players -

http://www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/LeicesterTheatres/TheYTheatreLeicester.htm

A Marjorie Morton Powell was the leading lady in 1932 at the Morton Powell Repertory Co. Leicester.

There are numerous newspaper articles that mention The Morton Powell Repertory Company on FindMyPast.

Maud Morton Powell (daughter of Thomas, see 1901) died 1969. She had a daughter called Betty Morton Powell who went on to marry Arthur Leslie who played Jack Walker in Coronation Street.

So the theatrical line followed through.

Indeed (although I admit they're not the family which I'm researching: but the name of the company turns up frequently in connection with my research).  Fascinating stuff!
