Can anyone find out what happened to Marianne/Marianna Calford?
« on: Saturday 31 December 16 17:23 GMT (UK) »
in 1828, baptism records for the parish of Bitton and Oldland show a baptism for Marianne/Marianna Calford, daughter of Samuel Calford and Ann, on 27th July 1828, with a note which if I am reading it correctly indicating that she was 13 years old at the time.  A 6 year old brother John is baptised at the same time.

The Calfords do seem to have had a habit of baptising their children past the baby stage.

After the baptism I cannot find any trace of Marianne or any variation in name, not a marriage, not a death or appearance in any census.  I assume she died young, and the baptism possibly took place because she was ill (although obviously have no way of knowing for sure)

If anyone can locate a trace of her, I would be most grateful.

thanks
Lisa

Mary I think is another daughter, baptised 1818. She was in her fifties when she married, after having about 7 children with husband George!

I'm not sure if it says she was 13 yrs old or 3 yrs old, based on the entry for the brother had 6 yrs old in brackets. So does it read (3 yrs old)?

There are quite a lot of servants recorded on the 1841 and 1851 census' with just initials. And hospital patients.

Oh dear, that's not helpful, having initials only for servants and inmates.

If the baptism record says 3 years old, that puts her birth to 1825, which would fit into the rest of the children's births. I don't think she is Mary though, Mary's baptism is in 1818 and the note on her record indicates that it was a private baptism and that she was 4 years old (together with sister Ann, who I think is 9 although the bracket runs into the loop of the number, so difficult to read)

There's a 25 year old Merria Calford in the 1841 census in Devon, a female servant, not born in county, at least according to A's transcription. Someone has added an alternative of Catford
