Eugenio Alers from either Puerto Rico, Hispanola, or even France.
« on: Sunday 01 January 17 19:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi all and happy holidays.
I am trying to follow my inlaw's line backwards from across the ocean and it is facinating if true.  Here is what I have:   Eloy Alers (1886-1918) son of
Antonia Alers Servera (b.1851 Isabela, Puerto Rico -1941 NY city) married to Joaquin Alers Duprey (1850-1920) daughter of
Eugenio Alers ? and Sebastiana Servera ?.
This is the interesting part.  Family lore tells us Sebastiana Servera was a freed slave who had a relationship at least with (her master?) Eugenio Alers.  Eugenio Alers was believed to be French whether France born or descended from a French family in Hispanola (today Haiti & Dominican Rep.)   We would love to find out the truth about this relationship (was it a marriage?) and were there siblings of Antonia.  The family as I know it settled in Puerto Rico and continue to reside there as well as in the U.S.A.  I am not ruling out that the story may be fiction and they are all from theisland of Puerto Rico.  Any info on this will be truely appreciated.

Hi all once more and a happy new year.  For some reason I was not able to edit my message but here goes anyway.  We were somehow able to acquire some more info on the subject Eugenio Alers.  His name seemingly is Eugenio Guillermo Alers Despessville (not verified but strong evidence).  We googled this and up popped an entry on Ancestry.it for the Santoni family.  There was a hit for Maria Alejandrina Alers Despessville and Maria Concetta Splendora Santori 1809.  Unfortunately we were not able to enter this site.  However this name appears later in our family tree as Dolores Santoni Alers a granddaughter of Antonia Alers Servera who is the daughter of the man in question, Eugenio Alers. To clarify, most official records bounce between Santori and Santoni but we believe it is the same family.
One angle is that Maria Alejandrina Alers Despessville is a sister of Eugenio Guillermo Alers Despessville.
Confused?  We are.   :)

Hi,

DESPESSEVILLE is a rather rare French family name. It's also written DEPESSEVILLE, DEPRESSEVILLE.
