Workhouse Initials Help Please :)
« on: Sunday 01 January 17 20:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello and Happy New Year to all  :)

Can i please ask for a little help deciphering some of the initials on this Workhouse Admission.
Location : Date : 1855, Bethnal Green, Middlesex / London.

I've underlined the initials in Red which i'm finding difficult.

Also, It show's James(48) William(15) and George(7).
It says next to William & George that Father is in ?? and Mother is in ??
Would i be correct in saying that James is not the father as the childrens
parents seem to be already admitted? However on the discharge for James
it says Discharged Himself, Wife & Children?
You can guess i'm a newbie!

Thank you  :)

Hi cockney bean

which workhouse records are you looking at?

The initials most probably refer to something local.

Workhouse Initials Help Please
« Reply #4 on: Sunday 01 January 17 20:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello (again)
For some reason my original Topic was removed? It just vanished!

This is a Workhouse Entry for BETHNAL GREEN, MIDDLESEX / LONDON, Dated 1855.
I'm trying to work out what the initials mean underlined in Red, can someone kindly help?

Also, would i be correct in saying that James is the father of William & George?
However, next to William & George entries is says Father is in ?? and Mother is in ??
So it seems as if the parents have already been admitted and James is maybe another relative?
Looking at the reason for Discharge it says Discharged himself, wife & children?

Thanks again for your help :)

This is a Workhouse Entry for BETHNAL GREEN, MIDDLESEX / LONDON, Dated 1855.

With the greatest of respect, I don't think it is.
It looks to me like the admission/discharge register for the Whitechapel Infirmary, which was managed by the Stepney Board of Guardians, not Bethnal Green.

Hi Dawnsh & Bookbox
Sorry i do not get direct email updates so never knew, my apologies.
Can we please keep it on here just for the moment until it's resolved :)

Bookbox, you certainly know your stuff!!
I just looked up the entry again but this time the text entry note on ancestry and it does say : Tower Hamlets, Stepney.

I'm guessing that CC could mean Christ Church? with following Wh meaning - Work House?
Not sure about the others underlined in red, can you please help?

Thank you both.
