Looking for connection between Charles Child and the Skinners
« on: Monday 02 January 17 11:58 GMT (UK) »
Charles Child was baptised in Dunsfold Surrey on 18 Jun 1750 s/o Thomas Child (mother probably Mary nee Baxter). At some stage he moved to Guildford, because he is mentioned in the 1803 will of his brother William Child as residing in Guildford.
Charles died in 1832, in his will he mentions as executors William Child and John Street (nephews). William is son of the brother William (who died 1803) and John is son of John Street and his wife Mary nee Child (Charles's sister) so their relationship is known.
However most of Charles's estate went to the children of Elizabeth and Henry Skinner. From the wording of the will it is clear Elizabeth is deceased by the time the will is written and that the property only goes to Henry Skinner for his life and then to the children of him and Elizabeth Skinner. So Henry cannot pass on the property as he wishes or any share to subsequent children (if any) with a second wife.
I can't find anywhere that Charles mentions his relationship to Elizabeth Skinner or her maiden name.
Some on line trees have her as his daughter, but I have been unable to find any marriage of Charles, any baptism of an Elizabeth Child which would fit in time or place, any marriage of an Elizabeth Child to a Henry Skinner or any baptism of the two children that these on-line trees have for the couple.

Can anyone help to find the connection please?

Thank you, they look promising. If age at death is right, Elizabeth would only be 18 when she married.

All London and Surrey, England, Marriage Bonds and Allegations on A*Try has the consent of Charles Child-the natural and lawful father of Elizabeth Child,a minor.

Thank you Maureen, I'd looked at Ancestry and missed that collection completely. It confirms she was a minor, but says twenty years and upwards, so maybe just under 21.
Is the phrase "natural and lawful father" significant?

I have since found transcript of marriage on freereg, neither witness seem to be family.
