Parish records on Ancestry
« on: Tuesday 03 January 17 20:07 GMT (UK) »
I am thinking of trying out Ancestry instead of Findmypast this year. Their premium sub. claims to have parish records, but do they have the images of the records as Findmypast does, (at least for the East Kent records, which I use a lot?)

Never done this before, I hope it works.

This is a list of all English counties and has where you can find on line images and indexes

The East Kent (or Canterbury Archdiocese) parish registers on FindMyPast are exclusive to them and not available on Ancestry.  Apart from Norfolk PRs (which appear to be exactly the same), Irish catholic registers and England and Wales non-conformist registers, all the other original parish register images are exclusive to each site.

As Steve says neither site has good coverage for Kent.

Thanks, looks as if I will have to stick with FindMyPast. (Lots of East Kent ancestors)

I expect you already know that all the Medway area PRs are available on Cityark, the site is free.

Hi Ancestry has the Kent Tyler indexes to parish records
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=1901
They were extracted from the parish records and written in book form you can read the full explanation at the bottom of the link. They can be useful as a cross reference tool but like any other source they are not complete and accuracy should be double checked. They can be found by looking in the search tab under card catalogue.
Kent online parish clerks have useful information as well but again not for every parish.
Regards panda
Ps free access to both sites can often be found in your local library
