Uniform
« on: Saturday 07 January 17 23:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi
This is a really bad photo that someone took a photo of a photo...so I know it's really difficult to make out the details on this uniform....but am posting to see if anyone can identify any thing from it, would love to know if it's army and if so which one.
Many thanks in advance

Do you have any more information?
Which part of the world?
Approximate era?
If it is a photo of a photo presumably the identity of the sitter in the original was known?
(In fact I think it looks like a photo of a drawing rather than a photo of a photo ...  )

Showing the entire image may help - his sleeves?  is he wearing anything on his head?

Hi Ruskie
There is a good chance this person came from Belfast Ireland, and am taking a guess at the date being around 1910.
Sorry to say his arms are not showing in the picture so no sleeves to show and no he is wearing nothing on his head. That's all I have of the uniform!
That's interesting that it may be a drawing ...
I know it was a big ask so thanks for replying  :)

I know there are plenty of experts who will be able to help you with this. I am not one of them sadly.  ;) :).

I am going to suggest that the collarless jacket may help ID this. A very quick google has thrown up the closest (but not the same) being WW1 US army, but there must be others.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The collar badges should (or may) give some clues, though they are not very clear. There
is also a chance it was not the services at all, but this may be a civilian uniform, post office or railways for example.  :)

Looks like an over-sketched enlargement & agree not a British Army uniform.

Artisann, I don't suppose there is anyone else in the photo? I am wondering if their style of dress can be dated.

It has the look of a WW1 US Army tunic.  The two collar badges should though be identical and it seems as if they have been touched up in some way thereby making ident difficult if not impossible!  Google Doughboys uniform or similar for comparisons.
