william elliot born abt 1823 scotland

William married first wife Ann Barnett in Trinity Gask  in 1847. he died in Liverpool in 1892. His father's name was Robert. I am trying to find his place of birth.

Does his marriage cert list his father's occupation??

No.. We know William worked as a gardener to his death. There is a william elliott on the 1841 census at Edrom Berwickshire as apprentice gardener.  I am guessing theat he possibly went to trinity Gask for work and met Ann who I think worked as a house maid at Milearne House.(1841 census)

Apologies - I should have remembered that Scotlands civil records didn't start until 1855.   

As the church record is unlikely to list his father's name where did his father's name come from??

From His  marriage certificate to his second wife mary in 1882. We are from the produce of this second marriage.

I can't see a baptism that fits on Scotlands People and although one tree on Anc does list William as living with a father Robert and family in 1841 in Castleton, Roxburghshire this William looks to be born to early to be the right one

Yes.  This one is incorrect me thinks!   He also suddenly loses 10 years in age when he marries his much younger 2nd wife!  It just complicates the problem. I am just wondering if I can access the records for the Free gardners association which existed in Scotland  during the nineteen centuary.

I noticed the younger the age after his second marriage!   But he did have a much younger wife!
